Promoting Resilience in Higher Education
The context of our authentic case
Preparing career changers for the transition to teaching
The Master of Teaching (Primary) program is an Initial Teacher Education degree for students who already have a degree in a field other than education. Completion of the two-year degree program provides eligibility for teacher registration and prepares students to teach from Prep-Year 6.
In 2017, the Master of Teaching Primary cohort (n=25) were in their final year of the program and were identified as part of the growing number of career changers who are transitioning to primary teaching. The purpose of the project is to explore potential scenarios that career changers may face as they transition to teaching and to develop ways we can better support all pre-service teachers to become successful teachers.
